“THE BEST GRAVEL RACE YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF.”

The Vegan Cyclist’s race recap video from 2023 is live now! Check out Tyler’s experience riding not one, but TWO Bighorn courses back to back.

As the “best gravel race he’s ever done,” Bighorn gets a proper breakdown from everyone’s favorite vegan. He highlights course features, strategy, community, and why he decided to do the Little Bighorn right on the heels of the 85-mile Rams Horn Escape course, for a total of 130 miles and 15k of vert! What a beast!

MTB TEST IN A GRAVEL RACE

Ben Delaney tests a new Specialized Epic HT at Bighorn Gravel in 2023!

3RD PLACE FINISHER DYLAN JOHNSON’S RACE RECAP

“Just because a race is advertised as a ‘gravel race’ does not necessarily mean that a gravel bike is the right bike for the job. At Bighorn Gravel I had to think outside the box in terms of my pacing and bike setup to land on the podium.”

Check out Dylan’s super-pro insights into his setup and strategy, and why he ended up with the biggest podium check of his career at Bighorn 2023!

2023 Race Recap

Check out some highlights from an epic day on the 85-mile, 10K course. 500 riders hit the gravel and duked it out for a huge prize purse, with Howard Grotts and Michaela Thompson coming out on top in the high altitude battle!

Alumni registration is now open, and general registration will be available soon. Friends you want to race Bighorn with next year!

Thanks to our partners and all the riders who showed up to make this possible.

Bighorn Gravel is a unique gravel adventure in the heart of the Rockies, starting and ending in the rugged western town of Gypsum, Colorado.

Everything you love about gravel, and nothing you don’t.

This coming June, gravel riders, families, friends, and spectators will descend on Eagle County for a gravel experience like no other. Featuring terrain and views that only Colorado High Country can offer, the course will challenge your fitness and skills as you climb through the thin air of the Rockies.

The 85-mile Ram's Horn Escape is a full serving of alpine gravel, featuring over 10,500 ft of climbing. Sprinkle in some single track, a hike-a-bike or two, rowdy descents that will have you begging for mercy, and some of the most fantastic scenery you can dream up, and you've got the perfect recipe for a great day on the bike.

85-Mile riders will compete for more than $10,000 in cash split evenly between Women and Men!

The 50-mile Little Bighorn is no gimme, packing 6,500 ft. of climbing into a relentless course. Same views, same wild singletrack, and the same spirit of the West found in the long course, in a more manageable serving.

Curious about testing your mettle, but not sure if a big gravel event is up your alley? The 20-mile Gravel Curious option is the best way to get your feet wet, featuring just enough gravel to entice you back for more. E-bikes are welcome, and the course is non-competitive.

The expo will include a family friendly build up to the next day’s events, complete with live music, food trucks, beer, kids balance bike races and much more.

Huge thanks to The Town of Gypsum and Pinarello for their generous support and helping us create this unique event. Thanks to their support, we’re able to offer onsite camping, complete with showers and bathrooms.

There are lots of options for gravel races these days. Why choose Bighorn Gravel?

  1. The course, of course! Eagle County is uniquely blessed with miles of secluded and rarely used dirt roads containing expansive views of incredible mountain ranges. To quote Dorothy, “we aren’t in Kansas anymore.” Even on a non race weekend it is not unusual to encounter more deer, elk, hawks and eagles than cars on our route. We are in the Rocky Mountains so climbing will abound whether on the short or long version. Regardless of which distance you choose you will head home with a sense of accomplishment and a desire to come back and explore the Vail Valley’s riding some more.

  2. The scene is insanely good. Our title partner, the Town of Gypsum has a world class facility complete with a rec center, pool, skate park, playgrounds and plenty to do for the non racers in your family. The Vail Valley is world renowned for a reason. Lodging options abound including package deals with our partner hotel The Westin Riverfront and Spa.

  3. Did someone say PARTY? After riding a whole bunch of miles and climbing a ton of vertical the last thing you want is a frozen burger. Bighorn Gravel will have a host of food trucks serving up an amazing variety of food sure to please the most discerning palette and satisfy the hungriest of racers. Adult and non adult beverages available.

  4. Convenient plan for your van. #Vanlife is becoming synonymous with gravel racing but nobody wants to deal with the hassles of finding a camping spot, packing everything up, and driving to the start line. Bighorn Gravel and the Town of Gypsum have a better plan. Convenient van camping with bathrooms and showers all at the start/finish line - for FREE!

  5. Bighorn Gravel is more than a race. With the help of our amazing partners the expo village is not just a spot to pick up a sticker from ‘Company X’. We will have balance bike races for the kids, tech talks and clinics to teach you all about the latest and greatest from the industry leaders and give you those real world skills that you can use down the (gravel) road.

  6. Prizes aplenty. The top boys and girls will be duking it out for TEN GRAND in CASH. Not racing at the sharp end? We’ve got your back. Bighorn gravel has lined up too many killer prizes to list (but we’ll try anyhow) - computers, wheel sets, glasses, helmets, bars, stems, tires, bags, nutrition plans, great discounts on gear and more…
